Title: Suspect Arrested for $100,000 Warrant in Fraud Investigation.
Denise Velasquez-Rodriguez, a 31-year-old Fairfield resident, was arrested on July 26, 2017 by
the Fairfield Police Department for a $100,000 felony fraud warrant obtained by the Winters
Velasquez-Rodriquez is suspected of stealing over $20,000 from a Winters resident’s checking
account during the month of June. With the assistance of the staff at First Northern Bank in
Winters, Winters Police Department Cpl. Gordon Brown was able to determine Velasquez-
Rodriguez had obtained the victim’s checking account information and contacted a company that
offers a “Check by Phone” service. After providing the necessary information, the company
directly issued Velasquez-Rodriguez checks and deducted the amount from the checking account
provided. It is unknown how Velasquez-Rodriguez originally obtained the checking account
Based on the information obtained in the investigation, a “Ramey” arrest warrant was requested
through Yolo County Superior Court and the Fairfield Police Department contacted in an effort to
promptly locate and arrest Velasquez-Rodriguez at her Fairfield address.
The Winters Police Department reminds residents to be mindful of their critical financial
information and to be alert for signs of fraud. Any indication of fraud should be immediately
reported to our financial institution and your local law enforcement.
