The School and Youth Resources Section

The School and Youth Resources Section is a section within the Winters Police Department assigned to handle most youth related issues. The issues consist of investigating crimes against children and crimes committed by juveniles. The section also is in charge of the juvenile diversion program and serves as a liaison between the Police Department and the Winters Joint Unified School District. The School and Youth Resources Section is a support position for the department and responds as a backup officer when needed.

The Winters Police Department has partnered with the Winters Joint Unified School District, Yolo County District Attorney Office, Yolo County Probation Department, and Yolo County Child Welfare Services, and Winters Community Groups to participate in School Administrative Review Board (SARB) meetings. These meetings provide a chance for students with truancy issues to undergo District Attorney Mitigation before their cases are turned over for prosecution under the California Education and Welfare Codes. Each participating agency is given the opportunity to provide their services to parents and students.

Reserve Officer Program

Reserve Officers are on call for emergency situations where additional manpower is necessary. In addition to emergency use, reserves can be used for general law enforcement duties, projects, and assistance with special programs. All duties can be performed on a day to day basis, or scheduled in advance.

The Winters Police Department has had an active Reserve Officer Program for over 20 years. Some of our Reserve Officers have gone on to become full time Officers with Winters and other agencies.

Please visit the Police Officer Standards and Training web site for more information regarding the Reserve Officer Program and the training requirements for Reserve Officers.
