On November 28, 2016 at approximately 7:30 am, Winters Police Department officers attempted to contact a subject at a residence in the 400 block of Main St. in Winters to serve a civil order.
Upon knocking on the door, officers heard what sounded like a gunshot from inside the residence. Assistance was requested from Yolo County Sheriff’s Office and the California Highway Patrol to shut down traffic in the area and establish a perimeter around the residence to ensure public safety.
Attempts to contact the resident via telephone and over PA were unsuccessful. Additionally, information was developed that the subject in question may not have currently been at the residence. Upon determining there was no imminent threat to the public, the perimeter was collapsed and traffic allowed to resume after approximately one hour.
